Call Her, Tella
In 2009, I moved back to the midwest from the west coast. I was renting a room from a friend of mine who had an awesome dog named, Josie. She was a playful boxer with an amazing personality. My roommate got married and I had to part ways with Josie. It didn’t take too long before I missed having a dog around. I started visiting shelters, attending adoption events, and spreading the word to friends that I was looking for a boxer.
After a couple of months, I got a text from a friend that said she might have a friend that needed to find a home for a boxer puppy. I immediately followed up and learned that the pup was about an hour north of Indy, so I decided to go take a look. When I got to the house I was immediately met by a GIANT boxer that turned out to be the mama of the pups. She stayed by my side the entire time I was there. The puppies were a beautiful mix, half boxer and half labrador (I like to call them boxadors). Each puppy was full of personality and super playful. They were still too young to take home, but that was a good thing because it forced me to do more research.
Two weeks later, I went back to pick up a pup. I knew that I wanted a brown female, but there were two to choose from and it was the hardest choice! I decided on the darker, slightly brindle one. She was the color of Nutella, the chocolate hazelnut spread. The name stuck, we call her Tella for short. She has turned out to be one of the most playful, fun-loving dogs I’ve ever known. She’s extremely smart and although a little rambunctious at times, we love the time spent together. Her most recent trick is giving high-fives! I wouldn’t trade her for the world.
