My Heart Flipped

I manage Club Canine Doggie Daycare and Boarding in Carmel. We work closely with ARPO (Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership), so we have many foster dogs in and out of our facility on a regular basis. Last December, several deaf American Bulldog mix puppies of the same ARPO litter began attending daycare at Club Canine. The first time I met one particular puppy, Joshua, my heart flipped. He looked just like the others, so it wasn’t that he was cuter, but something about him grabbed the center of my soul. Our family was NOT looking to adopt another dog! We had lost our golden retriever to cancer less than two weeks beforehand. We also agreed that puppies were too much work. but Joshua stayed on my heart after he left Club Canine to return to his foster home. After many conversations with God, and a weekend trial, we adopted him a week and a half later. Joshua has been amazing. He began training at 9 weeks and we talk to him with sign language. He goes to work with me, or my son, at Club Canine almost every day. At work we call him the “Welcome Wagon” because he loves to greet, and play with the new dogs. Best. Dog. Ever!
What a touching story. I do believe that the best pets of all are the pets that choose us. They simply know who the perfect parents are for them. What a lucky boy to have found you. Not many homes would learn sign language. Simpy inspiring.
Thank you for commenting! We too, believe that to be true! Our pets do kind of pick us, don’t they?
We are the blessed ones.
He is just amazing.
We are now fostering another deaf American Bulldog mix for ARPO who was owner surrendered at 7 months when they found out she was deaf.
We are working on teaching her what Josh knows. Actually – he’s teaching her alot!
Thank you for the kind words.
This is a fantastic site, lots of great useful information for every animal lover. Thank You.
